UK Crypto CGT Calculator 2025/26

Estimate your Capital Gains Tax on cryptocurrency for the 2025/26 tax year, which HMRC states “started on 6 April 2025 and ended on 5 April 2026”. It gives an indicative estimate, not a calculation of what you owe.

Leave blank if you had none. It will be treated as 0.

Helps determine whether gains are taxed at 18% or 24%.

This calculator provides an indicative estimate only. It does not apply HMRC's matching rules for cryptoassets, which run in a set order: the same day rule under TCGA1992/S105 first, then the 30 day rule under TCGA1992/S106A, with anything left over drawn from the Section 104 pool, where “Each type of token will need its own pool” ( HMRC Cryptoassets Manual CRYPTO22200). It also ignores income from other sources and any reliefs. Always consult a qualified tax professional before filing your Self Assessment. Bitcoin Tax UK is not a regulated financial adviser.

How this is calculated

The calculator uses the annual exempt amount for individuals of £3,000 for the 2025 to 2026 tax year, and the rates HMRC publishes for assets other than residential property disposed of between 6 April 2025 and 5 April 2026, which are “18% and 24% for individuals”. Which rate applies depends on whether the gain falls within the basic Income Tax band, which runs to £50,270 of income.

Two separate reporting rules apply. You must report and pay Capital Gains Tax when your total gain for the tax year is above the annual exempt amount. Separately, if you are already registered for Self Assessment, HMRC states you need to report your gains in your tax return “if the total amount you sold the assets for was more than: £50,000” for 2023 to 2024 onwards.
